The research programme “Coastal Oil Spill Preparedness Improvement Programme”
(COSPIP) is being carried out over a seven year the period, from 2006 to 2013.
The aim of the programme is to develop and implement oil spill contingency measures in the south-western Barents Sea and offshore Lofoten. Local factors such as proximity to the coast, adjacent land areas with valuable natural habitats and species, limited daylight, and low temperatures have all been taken into account.
