As early as the initial stages of planning of the Goliat development project, Eni Norge has directed its main focus on research and development into environmental matters.
Key issues have included environmental monitoring, oils spills, the detection of leakages and waste disposal.

The research programme “Coastal Oil Spill Preparedness Improvement Programme” (COSPIP) is being carried out in the period 2006 to 2013, and has a total budget of about NOK 25 millions.

Upgrading oil spill contingency strategies

Since 2006 Eni Norge and Statoil have been working closely together and have launched about 30 research and development projects related to contingency strategies in northern Norway. This collaboration has focused on strategic, operational, mechanical and non-mechanical oil spill contingency measures.

Our monitoring system won the Norwegian Design Council’s “Good Design Award” in 2011.

SECurus is a complex system displaying impressive levels of user-friendliness. The system combines images and film combined with the vessel’s navigation system.
Eni Norge has financed this development project together with Statoil and will be installing the SECurus system on the Goliat facility.

Conservation of marine biodiversity

In 2007 Eni’s commitment to biodiversity conservation was reinforced in the form of projects addressing biodiversity research, monitoring and mitigation projects. The projects focused on particularly sensitive terrestrial and marine eco-systems.

ArcticWeb gathers information

ArcticWeb is a joint-industry project aimed at making data from the Arctic accessible and searchable all in one place. The portal is also aimed at making it easy to extract reports and publications which data proprietors have in their possession, but which until now have been difficult to track down. Eni Norge is one of six companies supporting this project.
