Exploration

Correct interpretation of seismic surveys is an important success factor in order to replace produced hydrocarbons with new discoveries.

The company has been active in Norway since oil exploration began on the Norwegian continental shelf in 1965, and currently has interests in all areas from Ekofisk in the south to the Barents Sea in the north.

Planned exploration drilling in 2012

Eni Norge plan to drill 4 wells in the Barents Sea, the Statoil operated Havis and Skrugard-2 in PL532, and the Eni Norge operated Salina in PL533 and Bønna in PL529.

New discoveries in 2010 and 2011

In 2010, together with the operator Statoil, we made two new discoveries in the Norwegian Sea – Fossekall (oil) in PL128, and Flyndretind (oil and gas) in PL473. As operator, Eni Norge drilled the Lunde well in PL489 in the Barents Sea, but the well was dry.Eni Norge has also a 30% participating interest in the Statoil-operated Skrugard discovery in 2011 in the Barents Sea

Skrugard

Eni Norge has a 30 per cent participating interest in the Statoil-operated Skrugard discovery.

The Skrugard oil field is located about 100 kilometres north of the Snøhvit field in the Barents Sea, and is one of the most important exploration events to have occurred on the Norwegian shelf during the last decade.

The discovery well, drilled using the rig Polar Pioneer, has proven a 33-metre gas column and a 90-metre oil column. The oil is light and is easily producible.

This provides an estimated recoverable volume of between 150 and 250 million barrels of oil equivalents from the field. At the same time we see the potential for an additional upside of up to 250 million barrels within the licence – a possible total volume of 500 million barrels of oil equivalents.

Applications

Two applications were submitted to the authorities in connection with the 21st Round, and in May 2011 we were awarded two new licences – PL608 and PL226B in the Barents Sea. Following a thorough evaluation of the available acreage, no application was made in connection with APA 2010 (Awards in Pre-Defined Areas).

Eni Norge has been awarded three licences (1 operatorship and 2 partnerships) as part of the APA 2012 – Awards in Pre-Defined Areas.  The company is operator in PL697 and a partner in PL696 (both in the Barents Sea), and a partner in PL091 D in the Norwegian Sea.

Total portfolio

As of  17 January 2013, Eni Norge has participating interests in 54 licences and is operator in 14.
