Fishing Boat owners are invited to coastal oil spill in Finnmark

PRESS RELEASE: The Norwegian Clean Seas Society for Operator Company (NOFO) invites on behalf Goliat licensees boater fish and other vessel owners to participate in the new coastal emergency response plan

Eni Norway, Statoil and NOFO In cooperation with the North Fishermen’s Association to establish a permanent pool of vessels to protect the coastal oil spill response for the Goliat field. The vessels will also be prepared for other petroleum activities outside Finnmark and will consist of around 30 to 40 vessels. Vessel owners in the pool to enter into a contract with NOFO.

NMD has just completed a new set of rules that allow for the use of fishing vessels and other vessels in the coastal oil spill. The scheme is an innovation on the Norwegian shelf is one of the new elements that will contribute to a significant strengthening of the oil spill along the coast of Finnmark.

The regulations will also apply to the state preparedness against acute pollution. NCA will in 2011 make contingency arrangements with suitable vessels to increase the capacity and flexibility of the national preparedness.

Fishing Boat owners who wish to participate in the scheme must register their interest by 1 March. The aim is that the fleet will be operational in autumn 2011. For more information click on the link to: NOFOs website

Goliath is scheduled to be operational in the fourth quarter of 2013.

The operator of the Goliat field, Eni Norway AS (65%) together with partner Statoil Petroleum AS (35%). Goliath is the first oil field being developed in the Barents Sea.
